Frequently Asked Questions
| Q. |
How much mechanical traction is necessary with LOTS®? |
| A. |
Rarely exceeds 5 pounds...
The
LOTS® integrated traction splint
is biomechanically different than any other traction splint on the
market today. The LOTS®
splint immobilizes
using the timeless orthopedic principles of overcoming
the deforming forces of muscle pull and
gravity by using
equal opposing forces.
No extraneous mechanical
force is necessary to make the splint work. This changes some prehospital rules...
there are no magic numbers or formulas.
How a patient presents determines how a LOTS® splint is used. Responsive heavily muscled patients will require
greater amounts of equalizing traction than frail or smaller individuals.
Unresponsive patients may require little or no traction at all.
