The
ideal static belt closure tension is not as important as application of
simultaneous circumferential compression without any rocking or turning
of patient. Smooth application (tightening) of static closure belt
until moderate resistance is experienced assures the PCD™
is providing circumferential compression, overcoming anatomic
gravity effects, and stabilizing the pelvic ring without over-tightening.
Unstable pelvic fractures should be moved on a split litter (CombiCarrier®) stretcher which provides additional lateral support and eliminates having to logroll a patient which could shift bone fragments causing additional hemorrhage.
