depends on local prehospital protocols and standing orders. Some
pelvic ring fractures (open-book) are associated with increased pelvic
volume permitting large amounts of hemorrhage into third space.
These injuries occur when forces are applied in an anteroposterior
direction (e.g., person pinned between a vehicle and wall) and significant falls. Always contact on-line medical control for direction prior to application whenever communication is possible.
