Frequently Asked Questions

Q.
Should PCD be applied on every pelvic injury?
A.
That depends on local prehospital protocols and standing orders. Some pelvic ring fractures (open-book) are associated with increased pelvic volume permitting large amounts of hemorrhage into third space. These injuries occur when forces are applied in an anteroposterior direction (e.g., person pinned between a vehicle and wall) and significant falls. Always contact on-line medical control for direction prior to application whenever communication is possible.
